ZIPOLITE!

Home Sweet Home

A month in Paradise, YEAH! Now that is something that we all could use!
Zipolite is at the southernmost part of North America. Faces south from the state of Oaxaca. It really is one of the "ends of the world"; it's on the electric grid, but at the time I left there last, there still wasn't a permanent telephone there. You have to go to Pochutla or Puerto Angel for that. But all the other necessary amenities are there. It really is the best little beach I have ever been to!

It would be a good idea for us to arrive at Zipolite as soon after the 15th of December as possible, as it can start to fill up by Christmas. But not to worry! It's Mexico, and there is always room for one more! We will all find places to stay, and hopefully won't be all spread apart, but it isn't very likely that we can all stay at the same place. Rates in Zipolite at that time of year range from less than $2 a night to hang your hamaca at one of the palapas, to around $6 or $7 a night for a cabana on the beach, and on up to around $15 for the nicest hotel room with 3 double beds, pvt. bathroom, and TV. Excellent vegetarian meals for around $3 at the very nice restaurants, Tres de deciembre, and Shambala (Gloria's place).

At Shambala at the end of the beach, up on the cliffs, Gloria has a beautiful site where she hosts a very nice New Year's purification ceremony followed by a great party every year. It's very eclectic, with prayers from all over the world, and singing and dancing.
